21st Cheshire Go Tournament

Update 1st February: Roads are clear in Frodsham and no snow is forecast there this weekend.

Entries are currently at 48 and we may have to restrict further entries,
though we expect some players not to make it because of snow elsewhere in the UK.

Saturday 2nd February 2019

Frodsham Community Centre, Fluin Lane, Frodsham, Cheshire, WA6 7QN

The Cheshire Go Tournament is being held again in 2019 at Frodsham Community Centre alongside the Frodsham Weekend Chess Congress.

Format

All players will compete in a three-round McMahon tournament to determine the Cheshire Open Go Champion.
It is also possible to enter the Frodsham Weekend Chess Congress to play on Friday night and on Sunday.

Time Limits

For the first time in the UK we are planning to use Fischer Time on electronic clocks. The basic time will be 40 minutes per player, but you get an extra 10 seconds for each move you play. If your time runs out you lose - you are guaranteed at least 10 seconds to think on each move.

If the electronic clocks do not arrive then we go back to 60 minutes, with accelerated overtime of 20 in 5 minutes, 30 in 5, 40 in 5...

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the winner and those winning three games. Other prizes at the organiser's discretion.

Entry Fees

Adults£9.00
Concessions£5.00

If you are British but not a BGA member and not at your first tournament add £3 (Concessions add £2).

Refreshments

Coffee, tea, pop and light snacks will be available for purchase.

Location

Frodsham can be reached via the M56. Leave at Junction 12, following signs to the A56 and continue on into Frodsham. Fluin Lane is the B5152 and runs south from the A56, immediately left after a footbridge over the road. There are signs to the Community Centre, which is on the right. There is a large free car park.

Frodsham station is on the line between Manchester and North Wales, half way between Warrington (11 minutes) and Chester (13 minutes). Turn right at the bottom of the station approach, turn right again and bear east along the High Street for 500m and turn right into Fluin Lane. A shorter route is to exit the south side and turn left across the car park to the sloping path at the far end. Follow this path straight on into a close called Blue Hatch which has the Community Centre on its right.

This year Manchester and Chester via Warrington trains should be running to timetable, but there is some disruption planned on the West Coast, Mainline with no trains (only buses) to Runcorn on the Sunday.
