Location

Frodsham station is on the line between Manchester and North Wales, half way between Warrington and Chester (13 minutes). Turn right at the bottom of the station approach, turn right again and bear east along the High Street for 500m and turn right into Fluin Lane.

Frodsham can be reached via the M56. Leave at Junction 12, following signs to the A56 and continue on into Frodsham. Fluin Lane is the B5152 and runs south from the A56, immediately left after a footbridge over the road. There are signs to the Community Centre, which is on the right. There is a large free car park.

Refreshments

A selection of drinks and light refreshments will be available for purchase during playing hours.

Format

5-round standard play tournament with Minor, Intermediate and Major sections, with Fischer time controls.

Rate of Play

Fischer timing will be used. Each player will have 110 minutes with the addition of 10 seconds for each move made.

If you wish to withdraw during the event, you must notify your section Controller, to avoid inconvenience to your next opponent. Players whose opponents have not arrived within 30 minutes of their clock starting will be re-paired if possible.

Prizes

Major:For players graded under 210
Intermediate:For players graded under 160
Minor:For players graded under 120

Prizes in each section: 1st £150, 2nd £100, 3rd £50, plus a grading prize of £30

Entry Fees

Standard fee, all sections £26

Reductions (additive) of

  • £3.00 for any player aged under 18 or Over 65 on 1st September 2014.
    Your date of birth must be supplied if you wish to claim either of these.
  • £6.00 for Silver, Gold or Platinum (but not Bronze) members of the English Chess Federation,
    or members of the Welsh Chess Union.
    Your membership number must be supplied if you wish to claim this.
  • £9.00 for any player playing in the Go tournament on Saturday.

There will be a £3.00 surcharge for entries received after Wednesday 4th February.

Grading

The August 2014 Grading List will be used (not the new list to be published in January, except in those cases were a player has a grade in the new list but not in the August list).

Ungraded players must provide information to assist the organisers in allocating them to the appropriate section. Any previous grade must be declared. A player without a current published grade in a grading list recognised by the organisers will not be eligible to win more than £50.00. All results will be submitted to the ECF for grading. It is a condition of entry that players agree to their grading information being published on the ECF website.

Team Competition

There will be a team competition for teams of four who are bone fide members of a club, with the best three scores to count.

Entries by email will be welcomed, but please supply all requested information; they will be acknowledged.

Cheshire Go Tournament

This will be held at the same venue on Saturday 7th February. If you wish to play in both tournaments you may take 2 half-point byes in the chess on the Saturday and have a reduction in your entry fee. Entry details are available here or from the BGA website.
