Location

Frodsham station is on the railway line between Manchester and North Wales, half way between Warrington and Chester.

From the station, turn right at the bottom of the station approach, turn right again and bear east along the High Street for 500m and turn right into Fluin Lane, or take the path in the south-east corner of the area south of the station.

By road, Frodsham can be reached via the M56. Leave at Junction 12, following signs to the A56 and continue on into Frodsham. Fluin Lane is the B5152 and runs south from the A56, immediately left after a footbridge over the road. There are signs to the Community Centre, which is on the right. There is a large free car park.

Refreshments

A selection of drinks and light refreshments will be available for purchase during playing hours.

Accommodation

The Holiday Inn Runcorn has offered a rate of £60.00 B&B per night. Book online, or phone 0800 405060 quoting FC4. You will be required to provide a credit/debit card at the time of booking to secure your accommodation - this will not be charged until departure. This offer is available until 3rd January - rooms may still be available after that date.

Format

5-round standard play tournament with Minor, Intermediate and Major sections, with Fischer time controls.

Rate of Play

Fischer timing will be used. Each player will have 110 minutes with the addition of 10 seconds for each move made.

If you wish to withdraw during the event, you must notify your section Controller, to avoid inconvenience to your next opponent. Players whose opponents have not arrived within 30 minutes of their clock starting will be re-paired if possible.

Open:For players of any grade
U160:For players graded under 160
U120:For players graded under 120

Prizes in each section: 1st £150, 2nd £100, 3rd £50, plus a grading prize of £30. Additional prizes will be awarded if there are sufficient entries. Players may win only one prize each and to be eligible for a prize they must play at least three rounds.

Entry Fees

These are:

Standard fee, Open £30.50, other sections £27.50

Reductions (additive) of

  • £4.00 for any player aged under 18 or Over 65 on 1st September 2018.
    Your date of birth must be supplied if you wish to claim either of these.
  • Open £10.50 for Gold or Platinum (but not Bronze or Silver) members of the English Chess Federation,
    or members of another national Chess association
    £7.50 for Silver, Gold or Platinum (but not Bronze) members of the English Chess Federation,
    or members of another national Chess association.
    Your membership number/association name must be supplied if you wish to claim this.
  • £10.00 for any player playing in the Go tournament on Saturday.

There will be a £4.00 surcharge for entries received after Wednesday 30th January.

Grading

The August 2018 Grading List will be used (not the new list to be published in January, except in those cases where a player has a grade in the new list but not in the August list). The February FIDE rating list will be used for the draw in the Open, the other grades being converted as necessary.

Ungraded players must provide information to assist the organisers in allocating them to the appropriate section. Any previous grade must be declared. A player without a current published grade in a grading list recognised by the organisers will not be eligible to win more than £50.00. All results will be submitted to the ECF for grading. It is a condition of entry that players agree to their grading information being published on the ECF website.

Team Competition

There will be a team competition for teams of four who are genuine members of a club, with the best three scores to count. Prize: a digital clock.

Cheques and Postal Orders should be made payable to Frodsham Chess Club and sent with your entry form. Payment by bank transfer is also possible - see the form for details.

Cheshire Go Tournament

This will be held at the same venue on Saturday 2nd February. If you wish to play in both tournaments you may take two half-point byes in the Chess on the Saturday and have £10 reduction in your entry fee. Entry details are available here or from the BGA website.
